“A change is as good as a holiday”. It is true, Mazda has tweaked one of its finest models. On the 14th of July, the new Mazda3 brochure was leaked in Japan and officially launched in South Africa in August. In the hometown of Mazda, the Mazda3 is known for the Axela and it just received a subtle facelift.
Not much has changed in terms of outside styling, but you will see it on the new headlamps, the grille up front and they added fog lights as well. Mazda also introduced some new exterior colours. What has changed then you ask. The interior was designed around the driver. It was presented with a new compact display screen and a change to the multi-function steering wheel, which makes it easier so that you can concentrate on the drive. The entry level Mazda3 now has Bluetooth as well and from the Dynamic, they have put a button you can press so that your side mirrors fold in, for those tight parking places you need to get in to.
They added cruise control to the Mazda 3 Individual which is great, because the Astina was the only one who had cruise control. Then Mazda added a little colour to their interior as well as re-designed the form/shape of the seats, for even more comfort.
The way the Mazda3 moves, will leave you wanting more. Its lighter weight unleashes sporting agility whilst delivering smooth-riding, sure-steering confidence. The 2.0 litre Sky-active G petrol engine now with G-Vectoring (which varies engine torque in response to steering inputs – results in “improved handling for the driver and ride quality for the passengers around corners”) is quick to respond with refined thrust.

It was another exciting day at CMH Mazda Umhlanga on the 16 July 2016 as we hosted our July Jamboree! A day filled with family entertainment, braai wors rolls, fantastic prize giveaways and an array of specials on new and pre-owned vehicles.
Gloomy Weather, No Problem!
The gloomy weather did not deter the staff and public from enjoying relaxing music, a delicious lunch and fun and games for the whole family. While parents had an opportunity to speak to our friendly sales executives about the great vehicles on special and busy tailor-making deals, the kiddies enjoyed colouring pictures and the jumping castle under supervision off course.
While the first 10 customers to test drive a vehicle received cooler-bags, the kiddies were given a gift hamper packed with delicious snacks and crayons.

CMH Mazda Umhlanga Pre-Owned Manager
Mazda has revealed a new engine control technology that helps improve comfort, stability and grip, which is called G-Vectoring Control (GVC). The system limits the torque from the engine to create a smooth transition between G-forces. It works at all times, measuring steering wheel movements every five milliseconds – bringing benefits on both straight roads and during cornering.
Integrated Control System manager Toru Yoshioka told Auto Express: “This system encourages the driver to operate the vehicle like an expert driver.”
It does so by optimising the vertical load on different corners of the car, in the same way that a racing driver would modulate their inputs on the throttle during cornering. Because this system uses super-fast computers, it’s said more accurate than a person could ever be.
Mazda says the system is designed to go unnoticed by the driver, and that’s the exact impression we got on the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 models we tried.
It feels natural and helps with smoother more efficient driving. Mazda says the system is part of a human-cantered design philosophy, and will also help your body prepare itself better for corners. Because the steering response feels more natural, you are better prepared to absorb the movement as you go around a corner.
Mazda’s latest range of Skyactiv engines and chassis were the only units able to support the system, which has actually been in development for around six years. Unlike torque vectoring, the GVC system increases grip rather than the amount of wheel rotation – but the key difference is that it can be fitted using only engine software and sensors. That means it can be fitted to any current Mazda without much extra cost – so it’s expected to come as standard on the updated versions of the whole range.
Mazda isn’t saying which car will get the system first. We expect to see the first car with GVC getting it as part of a mid-life facelift, however, which is likely to be the Mazda 3 hatchback.

Introducing them to the smaller CX-3 variation was also an eye-opener to those that weren’t familiar with the Mazda brand.
