Mazda Southern Africa Staff Rally to Give Back
Although, it has only been two months since official Mazda Southern Africa operations commenced on October 1st 2014, in line with the upcoming festive season, MSA staff embarked on an initiative to collect funds and donations on their personal capacity. The intention was to make a donation to a well deserving charity around the Midrand neighbourhood where Mazda Southern Africa office is based.
It took only a few weeks for MSA staff to collect donations and raise a humble but impressive amount that management matched. Contributions collected ranged from children’s toys, groceries, toiletries, baby supplies and clothes to dog and cat food, blankets and pillows.
Two organisations were selected amongst so many equally deserving institutions; the Thembisa Child Welfare and the SPCA Centurion. A handful of staff members then took time out and went to the institutions for the handovers and got to spend time with the children and the animals alike. The children and pets from these homes displayed the courage and challenger spirit that defies convention which resonated with Mazda staff.
The Thembisa Child Welfare is home to 87 neglected and abandoned children, ages from 0 to 23 years. The SPCA Centurion provides boarding to 63 kennels and an extensive list of services relating to critical animal care. Needs for both welfares include the very basic everyday items that so many take for granted.

Automtoive Manipulator Theophilus Chin, who we’ve seen before with the Mazda2 Estate, has been back to the drawing board, literally, rendering what has to be said is a very pretty version of the new Mazda2.
Mazda has hinted at a possible sporty version of the Mazda2, which would likely be pitted against the Ford Fiesta ST, and while it’s unlikely to take on a coupe configuration, this rendering of a Mazda2 Coupe does leave asking the question, “Why not?”
He says nothing more than “…this is unlikely to happen. But this would have been a good spiritual successor to the

Would You Buy a New Mazda2 Estate?
Theophilus Chin who refers to himself as an ‘Automotive Manipulator’ has taken to the Photoshops and given us a glimpse of what the Mazda2 might look like in station wagon form.
Building off the recently released Mazda2 Sedan, Chin’s makeover leaves me for one, wondering why Mazda wouldn’t consider building a B-segment Estate. There is no Mazda3 C-Segment estate, so the chances of a Mazda2 Estate are remote to none.
Saying that, as a nation South African’s in general are not very keen on the idea of Estate cars, far rather enjoying the extra ground clearance and higher seating position offered by cross-overs and compact SUVs.
Pity, because to the automotive enthusiast, the estate wins hands down for practicality and driver involvement.
What do you think? Would you buy a Mazda2 Estate?

Mazda has its 90th Birthday
When looking at the cars Mazda has built over the last 90 years, it’s easy to see that thinking differently has led to exciting, innovative and fun-to-drive cars, made by a unique group of passionate individuals. From the best-selling MX-5 to the agile CX-5, Mazda has continued to make the most of its innovative engineering traditions and convention-defying spirit. Here’s to the next 90 years.New Generation 2002-2010
Mazda Zoom Zoom
Mazda receives a makeover and a new design and slogan to go with it – Mazda Zoom Zoom encapsulates the youthful joy of motion we feel as children. Translated into cars ‘Mazda Zoom Zoom’ provides a dynamic driving experience as well as an exciting design. Perfectly demonstrated by the groundbreaking, convention-defying RX-8 which debuted in 2003. A true driver’s car, it featured versatile “freestyle” doors, making ingress into the rear seats far easier and a modern interpretation of the rotary engine, winner of the “International Engine of the Year” and “Best New Engine” awards.Mazda Victory at Le Mans in 1991
Mazda Victory
No Japanese team had ever won Le Mans. Until 1991, that is. That was the year Mazda threw out the rulebook and entered its rotary-engined 787 racers in the world’s oldest and most prestigious endurance-racing event. Despite the 787s power deficit against the competition – the rotary engine proved to be more reliable than the compeitions regular inline and V configurated engines – Mazda managed to take the lead and win the race. This truly was a first for Mazda and a record that stands to this day: The only Japanese team ever to win and the only victory by a car not using a reciprocating engine design. All thanks to thinking differently and defying the conventions.Birth of Mazda MX-5 Roadster
Mazda MX-5 roadster makes its comeback.
In the 1980s, very few mainstream motor manufacturers where making roadsters anymore. Their heyday in 1950s and 1960s Britain seemed well and truly over. Until Mazda came into the picture that is.
The thinking was to create a sporting roadster, the Mazda MX-5 roadster for modern times that was reliable and fun to drive. To defy conventional thinking and to make a car that featured back-to-basics driving pleasure at its best.
The original Mazda MX-5 Roadster tipped the scales at just 955 kilograms proving to be a truly lightweight sports car. It boasted a front-engine, rear wheel-drive layout that featured exceptional driving dynamics.
This was the roadster of 1950s and 1960s reborn for a modern time. In fact, the Mazda MX-5 Roadster was so much fun to drive and such a pleasure to own that it became the best selling roadster of all time.
